Are Parasites Really the Cause of Symptoms?
Parasites and Chronic Illness: Are They Really the Cause?
Why Some People May Be More Susceptible Than Others
When a person is living with chronic symptoms and starts searching for answers, sooner or later they come across the same topic: parasites.
Regardless of the symptom, at some point someone will suggest that parasites are the root cause of everything — fatigue, skin problems, digestive issues, allergies, hormonal imbalances, or some other chronic condition.
I can relate to this. Years ago, I even underwent testing in which different methods were used to look for parasites in my body. I was genuinely interested in the idea that perhaps getting rid of them would be the solution.
Today, however, I see things very differently. I do not believe that parasites are the cause of symptoms or the root cause of illness.
That does not mean I think parasites do not exist. Of course they exist. What interests me more is another question: Why do some individuals seem to be more susceptible to parasites than others?
Why Are Some Individuals More Vulnerable to Parasites?
In the animal world, it is well known that stressed, weak, very young, or very old individuals are often more vulnerable to parasites than those who are strong and thriving.
Why is that? What makes one individual more susceptible?
In my view, one possible answer lies in the sense of belonging. Human beings are social creatures.
Hundreds of years ago, one of the harshest punishments was being cast out of the community. Being excluded from the group could literally mean the difference between life and death.
Could this be why our nervous systems still constantly scan the environment?
- Do I belong?
- Am I accepted?
- Am I safe?
Our Inner Protector calms down when we feel connected. But if we feel excluded, different, or as though we do not belong, our system more easily shifts into a state of stress. And it is precisely the stressed individual who seems to be more vulnerable to many different challenges.
For this reason, I personally would not start by fighting parasites.
Parasite Cleanses, Detox Protocols, and Chronic Stress
Many cleansing programs and detox protocols are based on the idea that there is something wrong inside the body that needs to be killed, removed, or cleansed.
This way of thinking alone can increase stress, as attention becomes constantly focused on what is wrong, what is threatening, and what needs to be eliminated.
I am not saying that some protocols cannot have an effect. But if the body's internal state remains the same, if unconscious stress remains the same, we may find ourselves fighting symptoms over and over again.
What Does Life Feel Like From the Inside?
Instead, I would direct attention elsewhere.
What does life feel like from the inside? Do I feel that I belong? Do I feel safe? Do I feel connected to other people, to nature, to life itself?
Interestingly, connection does not depend on how many people are around you. Someone may live in the middle of a large city, meet hundreds of people every day, and still feel completely alone.
Another person may live a physically isolated life and yet feel a deep connection to all humanity, to nature, or to God. What matters is not external reality but internal experience.
What We Resist Often Becomes Stronger
One of the most important principles of the Free to Heal® method is that whatever we resist often becomes stronger. The more we fight something, the more attention, energy, and significance we give it.
So what if parasites are not where our attention should be focused? What if, instead, we paid attention to what is maintaining feelings of unsafety, stress, and separation within the body?
Healing Begins With a Different Message
Change does not begin when we discover a new enemy that needs to be eliminated.
It begins when the body receives a new message — that it is safe, that it belongs, and that it no longer needs to fight.
Through the Free to Heal® method, we effectively strengthen the sense of belonging and safety. Then the body can begin to heal, whether the issue is parasites, allergies, autoimmune disease, or something else entirely.
